Spread the Word . . . Boy Readers Need Positive Male Role Models

About

FATHERS READ is an ongoing work-in-progress, created and moderated by children’s book author, James Preller. And it cannot succeed with your help.

For many years, I’ve followed the news with growing concern about the literacy gender gap. Why don’t more boys read? Long story short: I decided to try to make one, small positive contribution. I hope to primarily feature a wide variety of photos of men . . . reading. That’s basically it. The photos can be humorous, straight-forward, feature book covers or obscure them, include kids or not. It’s up to you.

So that’s my request: I need photos. Please email to: Jamespreller@aol.com with “FATHERS READ” in the subject heading. Include the first name of anyone pictured.

If you care to comment about any aspect of this issue -– why this subject matters to you, or if you’d like to highlight a male figure who played an important role in your development as a reader, or whatever you want to say -– I welcome your contribution.

I will periodically include published authors in the mix, but my goal is for this message to reach any male of the reading persuasion or otherwise, old or young. I simply want to send something out into the world that makes a basic statement: We celebrate men who read, because it’s so powerful for boys to see and emulate.

Reading . . . it’s a guy thing.

FATHERS READ will also feature a weekly “link dump” to articles of interest, hopefully becoming a Grand Central Station of good ideas and useful information on the general topic of boys reading.

Thank you for your support.
